LAMENTATIONS: Publications of polyphonic settings of the prophet JeremiahÕs mournful, timeless texts about war and destruction began in 1506. In this concert, the Egidius Kwartet performs two16th-century settings of these texts, by Alexander Agricola and Orlando di Lasso. By interspersing them with historical sound clips relating to war and violence, they place this bleakly beautiful music in a broader, contemporary perspective.

The EGIDIUS KWARTET was founded in 1995 by four members of Ton KoopmanÕs Amsterdam Baroque Choir with the aim of performing Renaissance and contemporary music from the Low Countries. The quartet was named after Egidius, an elegiac character from an old Dutch poem. The group has performed widely throughout the Europe and the United States.
